Background :

Swedish industry leaders are voicing optimism about deeper India-Europe business collaboration following the finalised India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, signed in January this year.

The pact is expected to open fresh avenues for trade, investment and technology cooperation between India and European nations, including Sweden, at a time when both regions are looking to strengthen economic ties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing five-nation tour marks the first major high-level engagement since the agreement took shape, drawing attention from European business circles keen to track how the deal plays out on the ground.

Per Stenfelt, Head of Engineering and Product Development at Sweden’s Artifex, said the trade deal points toward stronger industrial collaboration and wider business opportunities between India and Europe.

He noted growing confidence among European companies in India’s manufacturing and innovation ecosystem, a shift he linked to the momentum building around the agreement and the broader push toward closer economic integration.

Artifex, which was acquired by Tata Motors, has gained from the Indian government’s ease of doing business measures rolled out over the past few years, according to Stenfelt, who pointed to this as evidence of India’s improving industrial climate.

Industry experts expect the India-EU trade pact to deepen cooperation across sectors such as automobile engineering, clean technology and advanced manufacturing, positioning both regions to benefit from expanded market access, technology sharing and long-term innovation goals as the partnership matures in the coming years.
