JLR Launches Free Education Programme to Bridge UK’s STEM Skills Gap

Prime Highlights:

  • Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has launched Create Possible, a free online programme to help teachers and inspire students to explore STEM subjects.
  • The initiative aims to close the UK’s STEM skills gap and encourage more young people, especially girls, to consider careers in science and technology.

Key Facts:

  • A survey of 1,000 students found that 26% believe STEM is “just for boys,” while 75% of girls said they would consider a STEM career.
  • Students in London are almost twice as likely to join extra STEM activities compared to the national average (36% vs. 20%), showing regional differences in opportunity.

Background:

Luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has launched Create Possible, a free online programme to help teachers and encourage students to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Aimed at ages 11–14, it offers tools to build confidence and interest in STEM.

The launch follows a survey of 1,000 students that revealed key challenges in STEM education. The study revealed that over a quarter (26%) of pupils still believe STEM subjects are “just for boys,” while only 1% think they are “just for girls.” Encouragingly, 75% of girls said they would consider a career in STEM, though this figure rises to 88% among boys.

The findings also showed regional differences, with London students almost twice as likely to join extra STEM activities than the national average (36% vs. 20%), showing a gap in access to opportunities.

Create Possible helps close this gap by giving teachers simple lessons, fun activities and Q&A sessions with JLR staff. The programme helps make learning more engaging, supports teachers in practical lessons, and encourages students to discover their strengths and future career paths.

Morgan Gore, Schools Engagement Lead at JLR, said the initiative reflects the company’s “vital investment in future talent” and its ongoing mission to equip young people for a fast-changing world.

Create Possible builds on JLR’s broader efforts to advance youth futures through initiatives such as the JLR Schools’ Partnership Programme and its virtual work experience platform, which has already reached more than 7,500 students. Earlier this year, JLR launched the JLR Foundation with a £2.5 million pledge to help young people, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds, reach their potential.

With Create Possible, JLR aims to inspire future innovators and boost growth in UK education and technology.
