Background
The Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC), via its education subsidiary iPeople, Inc., has teamed up with Mapúa University and Arizona State University (ASU) to make education better in the Philippines. The program aims to provide Filipinos with an education that is internationally benchmarked and will help them make a success of their future endeavors.
YGC’s support enables iPeople schools to provide world-class education to produce highly employable and future-ready students, said President and CEO of Mapúa University and the Mapúa Education Group, Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo. He also said that graduates who can look at the world from a different perspective can help drive greater economic productivity, national development and international recognition of the country.
Additionally, the cooperation gives priority to industry-relevant research that might help solve practical problems in Philippine industries. Maestrecampo said developing students who are adaptable to changing global demands will be a plus for both Filipino families and businesses as global education will become more accessible.
The initiative coincides with the realization in the world that there are still opportunities for improvement in global education rankings in the Philippines. Around the beginning of July, the country secured positions 71st in the list of 203 countries in the International Education Database and 85th in the list of 177 countries in the Global Education Futures Readiness Index.
Along with Malayan Colleges Laguna, Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Malayan High School of Science, National Teachers College, and the University of Nueva Caceres, Mapúa University is a member of the iPeople network.
The partnership reflects YGC’s long-term vision to encourage sustainable development by providing quality education and training future leaders to step into the international arena, the agency said.
