Kingston University has received the Gold Standard for its Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education (ACE-CSE) from the National Cyber Security Centre, part of GCHQ, placing it among top universities in the field.
The Gold Award is given to institutions that deliver high-quality cyber security education, strong leadership and active outreach. Kingston University earned the award for its broad approach that brings together teaching, industry links and community programmes.
The university’s ACE-CSE is led by Associate Professor Eckhard Pfluegel and Senior Lecturer Deepak GC. The centre has built an inclusive curriculum that prepares students for future challenges while working closely with industry, government bodies and local communities.
The university runs programmes for school pupils, college students, small businesses and local authorities, focusing on safe online practices. These include basic cyber awareness for young learners and advanced sessions for students from underrepresented backgrounds through summer schools and similar initiatives.
The university has also strengthened internal cyber awareness. Its academics have worked with the IT security team to introduce mandatory cyber security and data protection training for staff and students, helping build a strong culture of digital safety.
