Background-

Google has expanded its AI education tools, including Gemini, NotebookLM, and Google Cloud offerings, as schools, colleges, and research institutions increase the use of artificial intelligence across teaching, learning, and academic work. The updates were announced in April and focus on educator training, classroom support, research partnerships, and student data management.

The company said it will roll out free AI literacy training for 6 million K–12 and higher education educators in the United States through its partnership with ISTE+ASCD. The programme includes AI learning modules, career certificates, and access to Google’s education tools, with additional modules planned every month.

Google has also launched a research affiliate programme with Purdue University, the University of Alabama, and the University of California, Riverside. The programme gives institutions AI tools, advanced models and direct support from Google teams to build research capacity and cut costs.

In classrooms, Google has expanded NotebookLM access for educators and students using Education Plus and Teaching and Learning add-ons. The update increases limits on notebooks, sources, quizzes, flashcards, and audio summaries, allowing more flexible study support. Gemini is also being integrated into Moodle, enabling summarisation and image generation within course workflows.

The company now offers NEET prep in Gemini, adding to the SAT and JEE Main materials already available. It’s also letting students transfer Google Photos from their college accounts to personal ones after they graduate.
